This last
three months we have continued to follow the theme of Empires with two
very interesting DVDs on the Aztecs and Incas; and the Romans in
Palestine and Europe, borrowed from the U3A resource centre. We have
concluded with a presentation on the “Concept of Empire” followed by a
discussion chaired very ably by Tom Garside.
We now
leave this theme and our next three meetings are as follows:-
Thursday
April 29th.
Jeanette
Hicks will be giving a talk entitled “Newark Priory – searching for
evidence.” Jeanette has been involved in the archaeological excavation
at this site and will talk about her experience

Thursday May 27th
The Sutton
Hoo Ship Burial and Anglo Saxon Britain. We will be showing the
British Museum DVD on Sutton Hoo which will be followed by Jan & John
Whittington talking about their visit to the Sutton Hoo site and the
Anglo Saxon Village of West Stow.

Thursday June 24th
An update on recent discoveries. This will include the
following:- The Staffordshire Hoard; Bosworth Field, Astronomical
discoveries & Thomas Harriot, plus, all being well, the recent
discovery of a new human ancestor.
