Procedure for Setting up U3A Projector
General Cautions: This equipment is expensive and delicate. Exercise extreme care. Ensure that it cannot be nudged by people walking by and that cables are not “trip wires”. At first use review the Epson Quick Reference Guide. Do not move the projector while it is on. Ensure that no one turns off wall power before it has completed its cool down sequence while being turned off. 1) Carefully place the projector on a firm table approximately 6 ft from the screen. Remove the Lens cap. 2) Place the Laptop within 5 ft to one side of the projector to the convenience of the presenter. 3) Connect the video cable (blue ends) to the blue socket on the back of the projector (computer/component video) and screw in the retaining screws. 4) Connect the other end of the video cable to the left side socket towards the rear of the U3A laptop. There are no retaining screws! 5) Connect the projector power cable FIRMLY to the rear of the projector. Ensure that the plug is fully seated! 6) Plug the other end of the power cable to mains power. Ensure that the cable cannot be accidentally tripped over. The red power light on the projector should be illuminated 7) Connect the laptop power block to the connector on the rear of the laptop 8) Connect the laptop power connector to mains power observing the cautions in 6). The light on the power block should be illuminated. 9) Turn on the laptop and log on. 10) Depress the projector power button. The “EPSON” logo should appear. Focus by rotating the lens. Adjust the picture height using the side supports. Adjust “Keystone” as necessary 11) The Windows Desktop should be visible. If it is not, and “no signal” is seen, depress and hold the FN key (next to the ctrl key, bottom left) and simultaneously press F8 (centre, second row) once. Three icons should appear, press F8 until the centre icon is highlighted. Allow some seconds between presses. 12) If the presenter needs the “remote mouse” connect its receiver to any of the 3 USB sockets to the left centre of the laptop 13) The mouse must be pointed at the receiver! PowerPoint presentations may be advanced or retired using the mouse. The presenter may wish to practice before making the presentation! Shutting Down 14) Press the power switch on the projector twice. 15) Wait until the projector “Beeps” indicating that it has cooled and it is safe to continue. Reinstall Lens cap 16) Log off and shut down the Laptop 17) Disconnect cables and put them with their appropriate equipment.
