Art Appreciation

Conveners : Jan
Whittington and Mary Macey
Meetings are held at West Chiltington
Church Hall at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday in the month. New
members are always welcome.

On Tuesday, 1st March, a dozen members of the Art
Appreciation Group went to Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. We had
been invited by Mercia Last (founder of the Arun Valley U3A) who
offered to show us some of the most noteworthy exhibits. From the
enthusiasm and depth of knowledge Mercia showed we think these
exhibits were probably her favourites. She also told us of the history
of Pallant House and its development into the gallery it is now.
We travelled in separate cars, some in the
morning, others in the early afternoon, to meet up at half past two
when Mercia came to join us. She gave us an hour and a half of her
time, after which a few of us had a leisurely cup of tea together. We
then had about half an hour to visit a varied temporary exhibition in
three rooms upstairs.
It was a lovely day and we are all very grateful to
Mercia for the experience
