CHAIRMANS LETTER  July 2011.

Dear Members,

In a summer which has so far been a bit variable and light on sun, our Garden Party at West Chiltington Golf Club was blessed with a really hot summery day. While some aspects of the event did not turn out as planned, the 50 members who attended enjoyed the opportunity to have a good chat and appreciate the rather spectacular view across the valley to the vineyard at Nutbourne. The Scones with strawberry jam and cream disappeared at quite a rate. Our thanks for the planning and organisation to Kay, who will take into account for next year the views expressed by members in the questionnaire which she circulated. We would now value a volunteer member’s Garden for the chance to revert to the Strawberry Tea format for the event of 2012.

We are having to seek a new Treasurer, because Terry Legg who took up the post last year is finding that accumulating health problems are making it difficult for him to carry on doing the job as he would like. In addition to this the Management Committee are in need of two other new members because two of the current members will have completed the maximum 6 years service by the next AGM in February.

The Committee meet four or five times per year and deal with the Branch’s business in a very unstuffy and enjoyable way. We would love to enjoy the company and support of some members who have, until now, not been involved in the “below decks” activities. Please think about your response to this plea; in a small branch like Arun Valley U3A the jobs involved are essential to the running of the Branch but not massively time consuming. As a first “without obligation” step why not contact myself or another member of the committee to discuss how you might help (our Telephone numbers and email addresses are just inside this Newsletter).

The Christmas Party on Tuesday 13^th December is a definite date to put in your Diary now. We have booked the same caterers as last year and plans are in hand to provide a good background for you to enjoy the company of fellow members in a festive spirit. If you know of members who may have difficulty in getting to the Hall in Pulborough please check that they have the offer of a lift.
