Music Circle
We meet in members’ homes, at 2
o’clock on the first Thursday in the month, and we would welcome new
members - a very pleasant friendly way
to spend an afternoon. We are aiming to enjoy, and hopefully
understand a little more, a wide range of music; this has included so
far Classical, Jazz, Opera, Light Music, and Christmas Carols; some programmes have been based on a composer, others on a musical
instrument, some on a musical period, while others have been chosen
freely by one member.

MUSIC PROGRAMME
MUSIC CIRCLE
As usual, the Music Circle brings
new and unfamiliar music to us. At the February meeting we heard Arias
from Puccini’s “The Pearl Fishers”, and “The Bell Song” from “Lakme”
with Joan Sutherland – remembered for ever as the BA theme song.
John Shipperlee started his chosen
records for Private Passions by reminiscing on his school days
listening to Family Favourites with Harry Secombe’s Napolitan songs,
and then, in total contrast, came a fine rolling presentation of Spike
Jones “Cocktails for Two”. On the serious side we heard arias from
Gluck’s “Orfeo”, Gregorian Chants, Carmina Burana and finally Imogen
Cooper playing a Chopin Sonata – a fine ending to a most interesting
choice. We look forward to the next “Private Passions”.
We still have space for a few new members.
