EVERYONE WELCOME - Beginners, please come and join us. We like to share our enthusiasm and show you the Natural World so near to home. Car lifts can be arranged. If you have them, please bring binoculars. Leaders bring field guides to show you whatever it is we are looking at!

NATURAL HISTORY (Walks)

 All walks start at 11.00 and are no more than 3miles, taken at a leisurely pace. Bring suitable footware and wet weather gear plus picnic. Details in the programme below

 

Friday, 23rd April -Shoreham Harbour and Widewater .Look around the old fort for incoming  migrants  plus maritime plant species and move on to Widewater for ducks. Picnic lunch.

From A27 or A283 follow signs to Shoreham Beach at the large roundabout by the airport turn left and follow the estuary to the Fort.  There is a P&D car park.

Tuesday, 25th May - Ebernoe Reserve - Springtime walk (between Wisborough Green and Petworth. We should find orchids, early butterflies and new migrants, plus historical sites. The Trust have recently enlarged the site and we shall explore the new extension.

OS Explorer 133 GR975275 - from Petworth take the A283 Guildford road, as you leave Petworth turn right marked Hampers Green/ Balls Cross. At Balls Cross take the left fork and left again at the Stag pub.  Parking at the Old School/Church.

Tuesday 29th June

 West Dean Woods. A second visit to this site hopefully in the dry this time! Chalk loving small plants

Thursday 29th July

 Coombes Valley -circular walk to Coombes  Farm and Steepdown  for downlands flowers and butterflies. Listen out for quail (‘wet my lips’) and corn bunting (‘jangling keys)’.

Also visit the ‘shepherds church’ at the farm.

From the A27 at Lancing roundabout turn north into Manor Rd and then right opposite the pub (Mill Road). Car park at the top. Some stiles and could be muddy depending on the weather. Picnic at Lancing Clump.

 Lordings Lock  + Wey & Arun Canal

Level walking to look at water plants, butterflies and dragonflies.

Leave Wisborough Green on the A272 and make a right turn  at the allotments
