Convener: Jo Phelps
Venue: As arranged

THE THEATRE GROUP
The next quarterly meeting of the Theatre Group will be
held at 2 pm on 21 April to choose which performances members next
wish to attend. The recently published brochure from the Chichester
Festival Theatre includes productions of musicals eg Sweeny Todd with
a West End cast and Singing in the Rain, as well as plays by Terence
Rattigan, Tom Stoppard and others. The programme runs until the first
week of November.
The venue for the meeting will depend on numbers attending so please
advise Jo Phelps AS SOON AS POSSIBLE whether you wish to attend. If
numbers justify it, the meeting will be held in the West Chiltington
Church Hall but if not it will be in Jo's home in Billingshurst which
will avoid a small number of attendees having to bear the hire cost of
the hall.
Since the beginning of this year we have seen The History Boys by Alan
Bennet at Chichester; with more recent trips to the Guildford Theatres
to see The Reluctant Debutante (February), Lillies of the Land, in
March - a nostalgic reminder of the Women's Land Army of World War II
- and the Lady in the Van by Alan Bennet this coming May which is
described as being based on his personal experience. A small trip by
bus to see Agatha Christie's "The Verdict" at the Connaught Theatre in
Worthing on 20 April is also being arranged by Jenny Waterhouse
if you are interested.
As mentioned in previous newsletters we have tended to choose
matinees, especially in winter months which allows time for parking
and lunch beforehand, which makes for a highly sociable and relaxing
day all round. Car-sharing works well with usually one car from
Storrington and another from the Billingshurst area, with occasional
pick-ups on route if necessary. Modest contributions are made to
whoever is driving that day.
Our membership now runs to 14. New enquiries are always welcomed. |
